STOP PRESS

STOP PRESS

Aside.

I don’t know how informative it will be but at 7pm tonight on BBC 2 there is a programme on Microsoft’s New Vista.  The Money programme is ‘exploring the home technology revolution.’  Meanwhile John.g (side bar) is finding out for himself.

A friend of mine has tried Vista. As far as I can tell it doesn't do much more than XP but looks prettier!

Michele sent me :-)

Hi Bob-kat: my friend says it is incompatible with some games as yet, but that 'it flies'.

The IT guys at my workplace are raving over Vista, I'll stick with my Microsoft Office 2000, I think my computer would have a nervous breakdown if I tried to put anything newer into it! & I don't want to replace it yet.

Hi, Pat, and still it snows, not settling yet , though we`re in for a load tonight before rain sets in.

J-L-P Vista won`t run if you`re on AOL9.0. try downloading AOL 9.0 vr.(sorry for hi-jacking your site Pat).

Garden photos soon, i promise.

Welcome Paige. Make yourself at home.

Jean-luc: good luck with it. I expect you are computer literate.

Kim: I suspect you got the best of the bargain. There were a loto 'Wows! with not a lot of substance to back it up.

Becky68: like me - wait till you have to get a new computer and then it will be already installed.

john.g. I really want snow to try to take a snow photo but the nearest is wet sleet.
Glad you are on hand to give new Vista owners the benefit of your experience.

Word on the street here is that we should not flock to Vista until they get the bugs out of it, perhaps in 6 mos. or a year.

That's good Judy! Fits in with my future plans.

My Computer Wizard---he buolds computers for Corporations, etc. Said, that VISTA still has some problems and probably won't be really "ready" for another 8 or 9 months...So, if you are thinking of switching...You might want to wait a little bit longer...!
Here from Michele's this afternoon..Well, it is a bit after 3pm in the afternoon here in Los Angeles.

Pat said...

Hi Lady of the Hills! I'm happy to wait longer - until my computer breaks down, in fact. 3pm for you - bed time for me - 23.21pm. Night night!

I have spoken about Vista extensively in the media. Although we'll all likely eventually be using it because it'll come pre-loaded on every new computer for the next few years, I see most companies and individuals taking a go-slow approach to adopting it initially.

Like any new operating system, it never best to be the first on your block. Better to wait until the first batch of fixes is available (usually called a Service Pack) before initiating the migration. And even then, never consider doing it on existing hardware. Time it to the schedule you would have otherwise followed to refresh your computers.

Sorry, I'm geeky that way!

Hi Carmi: I could say it's all Geek to me - but I won't. I value your opinion and am certain what you say is good sense so I'm hoping my computer will go another year. One of my sons says that as I don't use it for games there is no reason why it shouldn't last. Fingers crossed.
